2012 brought a new house and a new aquarium with sump. Programmable LED lighting was purchased as an alternative to expensive to run metal halides. The lighting unit had 88x 3w leds installed with dimming from 0- 100%.
A new RO/ DI unit was put to use and the aquarium and sump filled with 300 litres and Kent salt. It didn't all go peachy as the drivers for the light failed soon after first use. Luckily I was able to source new ones in the UK via the Chinese manufacturer under warranty.
Ammonia was added to the system for a fishless cycle, using dead live rock I had purchased from another reefer. An algae bloom soon took hold, so I purchased a UV clarifier, which did the job in a few days. 3 weeks for the cycle to complete, then the stocking could commence.
Frags were purchased and attached to the rockwork. Growth was encouraged by purchasing a doser for keeping magnesium, calcium and hardness levels where they should be.
